Centenário da Banda Filarmónica de Torroselo
A Banda Torroselense Estrela D' Alva foi fundada oficialmente em 8 de Fevereiro de 1908 pelos irmãos João e Eduardo Batista, naturais de Torroselo, embora a sua criação se reporte a muitos anos atrás tendo assim mais de cem anos de existência, a filarmónica foi noutros tempos uma secção musical do Grémio Torroselense Estrela D' Alva tento o nome de Grupo Estrela D' Alva. João Batista vulgarmente conhecido por João do Freixo, foi o seu primeiro regente e aquele a que ficou a dever-se a Filarmónica. Revelou, desde a primeira hora, notável vocação para a musica dando público testemunho das suas qualidades e conhecimentos alguns dos mais prestigiantes músicos de Carragosela que acompanharam o seu trajecto quando ainda jovem deu ali os primeiros passos e ali bebeu alguma sabedoria que viria a corporizar. Repartia a sua actividade entre relojoeiro e mestre da Música. Na sua profissão diz quem o conheceu e com ele privou que foi um artífice excelente. Na Música conseguiu superar todas as expectativas tento vindo a cotar-se como um dos melhores regentes que por Torroselo passaram. A ele se ficou a dever a primeira escola de Música da Banda que fornecia à Filarmónica, com muita regularidade, elementos de reconhecida valia técnico-musical. A Banda Torroselense Estrela D' Alva conheceu muitos e bons regentes sendo justo destacar os nomes daqueles que mais se distinguiram pelo seu trabalho, pelo seu empenhamento e pela sua capacidade: Mestre Alfredo, José Caetano, Norberto Pires, Luís da Silva, todos de Torroselo e ainda, Raposo Gomes, Quaresma, Carlos Mousinho, Guedes, Victor Costa, Marco Paulo, Lélio Réis, Paulo Paredes e pelo 1º Sargento do Exército, João Alberto Jesus Sousa . Actualmente é novamente dirigida pelo Maestro Marco Paulo cuja formação académica e experiência são o garante de um trabalho profícuo, dirige também a escola de música. A Banda Torroselense Estrela D' Alva possui, hoje, um excelente instrumental, completamente renovado, no valor de alguns milhares de euros, só possível pelo esforço conjugado dos seus associados, da Câmara Municipal, do Ministério da Cultura, da Secretaria de Estado da Cultura, da Gulbenkian, da Junta de Freguesia, do Instituto Português da Juventude, do INATEL. Ao longo da sua já longa existência, a Banda Torroselense Estrela D' Alva foi dirigida por gente ilustre e dedicada que à sua terra deixou o nome. Permita-se-nos lembrar apenas os nomes de Eliziário Mendes Campos, José Leal Alves Lourenço, Joaquim Norberto Duarte Pires, Herculano Mendes De Unhão, António Mendes Povoas, António Mendes Campos, António Coragem, Joaquim Pimentel, Luís Martins, José de Sousa Frias e António Paes Mendes, sendo actualmente dirigida, por uma comissão instaladora que conjuntamente com um grupo de Torroselenses de méritos afirmados emprestaram à Colectividade uma dinâmica e crescimento verdadeiramente notáveis. A Banda Torroselense Estrela D' Alva, tem actualmente 40 executantes, todos oriundos da escola de música que aqui frequentaram, tendo esta escola actualmente uma média de 25 aprendizes, com idades compreendidas entre os 8 e 20 anos de idade.
